GED and Beyond
GED and Beyond is designed to address the complex challenges and barriers that students in Washington and Aroostook Counties, as well as from additional ABE sites in Central and Coastal Maine, face as they seek their General Educational Development (GED) equivalency diploma and move on to postsecondary studies. Administered by Syntiro, a nonprofit based in Readfield, the program will provide intensive mentoring, coaching, and career and college counseling to 25 students during Year One. Each student will be enrolled through a rigorous selection process, guided through the attainment of their GED and application submission to a postsecondary institution, and mentored through their first semester at that institution. Once enrolled in GED and Beyond, a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) will be collaboratively developed between student, project staff, and the local adult education staff. Specifically, project staff will work with participating students to establish clear goals and action steps to support successful completion of the GED and college admissions process and to provide coaching to address challenges and/or barriers in a proactive and targeted manner. Project staff will work closely with the staff of participating adult education centers to implement components of the project.
