Using Current Literature to Promote Student Engagement, School Completion and Fostering the Permission to Dream

This session will promote student engagement, school completion and the permission to dream. We will model interaction that you can replicate with learners of all ages. You will explore through interactive participation how one’s internal and external resources, “the power of choice”, and resource mapping for self-analysis, along with life’s opportunities impact a learner’s engagement.

Outcomes:

  • Participants will gain a common vocabulary and understanding about poverty,
  • Know the impact of a learner being resourced or under-resourced, and 
  • Understand "how the power of choice" promotes student engagement and re-engagement

Presenters:

Elaine Miller, CAS, Co-Founder - As a former teacher, principal, superintendent of schools, Vice President of Jobs for Maine’s Graduates and co-founder of Essential Learning for Designing Educational Bridges, EL-DEB, INC. Elaine Miller’s expertise in the fields of education, managing change, understanding the framework of poverty and collaborative partnering, brings a systemic approach to schools, their system, and professional development for educators, community service providers, and interagency partnerships.

Debrajean Scheibel, ED.D. Co-Founder - As an educational consultant for the Maine Department of Education, a former Special Education Administrator, teacher, and co-founder of Essential Learning for Designing Educational Bridges, EL-DEB, INC. Debrajean Scheibel brings with her a powerful ability to increase the efficacy of educational systems through systemic development and the fostering of district-wide high impact strategies and professional development to promote common language, understanding, and practice for equitable learning opportunities within school systems. She promotes designing learning systems that are learner centered, conducive to learner engagement and fostering the learner's hope for a preferred future.

Learning session fee of $65.00 includes hearty snacks and handouts. Our cancellation policy is 72 hours prior to the event. You will be expected to pay if you do not attend and cannot provide printed confirmation of your cancellation. If you are a full-time student enrolled in an education degree program, contact us about a discount.

Three Clock Hours will be awarded.
