Career and college readiness is an educational concept that has been endorsed by the White House, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Governor’s Association---down to local school districts and community organizations. It suggests a need for schools to make career and college readiness a primary objective of the educational process and infuse age and student specific activities into the curriculum, student services and the entire educational experience.  Come and learn about how students can be made “ready” for the incredible number of educational and career options that exist for them following their K-12 experience. The program will help you present the concepts of self-awareness, exploration, and decision-making to your students, as well as the action steps they must take to “bridge” to postsecondary education and the world of work.

Outcomes: By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Comprehend the career development process, specifically as it applies to child, youth, and young adults.
  • Identify age and grade level activities that will promote awareness, exploration, and decision-making for students.
  • Learn strategies that can be used to engage parents in helping their children with educational and career transitions.
  • Identify tools and resources that will facilitate career and college readiness.

Presenter: Frank Burtnett is a career long counselor, counselor trainer, college professor and educational consultant from Springfield, Virginia and Rockport, Maine. He is the author of the Bound-for-Career Guidebook and Bound-for-College Guidebook, published by Rowman & Littlefield Education. Dr. Burtnett has earned the National Certified Counselor and National Certified Career Counselor certificates of the National Board for Certified Counselors. His presentation style involves engaging participants in an examination of their personal educational and career experiences as “teachable moments” with which all can identify. Participants will find his presentation engaging, interactive and informative.

Learning session fee of $65.00 includes hearty snacks and handouts. Our cancellation policy is 72 hours prior to the event. You will be expected to pay if you do not attend and cannot provide printed confirmation of your cancellation.
