In these highly stressful times taking care of yourself is becoming more and more important. There are many ways to do this and one of the most beneficial is through meditation or guided relaxation. This workshop will introduce you to the many benefits of meditation. The facilitator will lead you through a variety of techniques to help you quiet your mind and achieve a meditative state.  Participants will be invited to engage in several processes including a guided relaxation, crystal singing bowl meditation, and breath-focused meditation. Psychology Today (By Colin Allen, published on April 01, 2003) reported:  “Neuroscientists have found that meditators shift their brain activity to different areas of the cortex—brain waves in the stress-prone right frontal cortex move to the calmer left frontal cortex. In other words, they were calmer and happier than before.”  MIT (2011) also found that meditators were less stressed, able to respond more effectively to stressful situations and they reported they felt more peaceful than their non-meditating counterparts.  These techniques can work for students as well: multiple studies have identified schools that are beginning to use meditative techniques not only to address teacher stress, but are also using the techniques with students to alleviate the growing levels of their stress. “University of Michigan researchers found that meditating middle school students showed increased happiness and reduced anxiety and depression compared to controls.”

Outcomes:
Success will look, sound, and feel like:

  • Understanding the benefits of meditation;
  • Learning strategies to assist both teachers and students;
  • Participating in a variety of meditative processes;
  • Feeling relaxed, less stressed, and rejuvenated!
