Playing With Words: Building Vocabulary Part I

Do you remember learning to read? Chances are “word study” was a big part of it and for most of you it was about definitions. However, building vocabulary is much more than looking up words in a dictionary and memorizing the definitions.
In this session you will learn strategies for building vocabulary while having fun. Join us in exploring what it means to really “know a word.” You will walk away with activities to provide multiple exposures in multiple ways.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
- Learned the principles for word selection.
- Explored direct and indirect methods that support vocabulary development.
- Gathered varied techniques for vocabulary instruction before, during, and after reading.
- Seen an easy transition to practice in your workplace.
- Renewed your energy from sharing a learning experience with your professional peers.
Presenter: Ann Pike, M.Ed. is an educational consultant who supports individuals, teams, and schools to grow professionally.
