Exploring the Route delivers practical strategies to support you in serving job seekers with complex support needs. Exploring the Route focuses on learning more about a business, developing the right job within that business, and providing the necessary training and supports to insure your job seeker's success. Key to this process is providing long term supports to encourage retention and advancement, and in the end, promote successful community integration.
After completing all three steps, fieldwork requirements and assignments, trainees will earn an ACRE Basic Employment Certificate & those student’s names will be submitted to ACRE to appear on the ACRE Website.

Griffin-Hammis Associates (GHA) offers the ACRE-approved Basic Employment Certificate in several formats designed to meet the needs of our customers. Covering the Customized Employment content equates to 40 to 72 hours of instruction, depending on customer needs, with Certificates issued following successful completion of work-applied assignments or fieldwork, and earning a passing grade on the final test.
Training Formats:
Immersion Training (40 hour) involving a 4-day session, with a follow-up 2-day session
10-day intensive (72 hour) classroom/field work course delivered in 2-day sessions over several months on-site to a community, region, or state;
5-day (40 hour) Immersion Training option with intensive weeklong session that includes a mix of classroom instruction and community/business exercises;

Iowa-APSE offers this in person training two times a year. The series is broken into three Components:
1. Foundations: This Self-Study module is to be completed prior to attending either one or both of the face-to-face sessions. Topics covered in the Foundations include: Benefits planning, overview of competencies needed for quality services, cultural diversity, customer service, history of vocational rehabilitation, history of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act, orientation to supported employment, career development and person-centered planning. Each of the nine Units contain readings, activities and assignments. The assignments, when completed, are sent to the mentor assigned to the participant for review.
2. Job Development—Face to face training session: This 2-day training session, is specifically titled, A Business Orientation to Job Development, to highlight the focus on a business model, not unique to rehabilitation. Topics covered in this session include: community job market surveys, developing a referral system, the feature-advantage-benefit approach, initial contact methods, employer survey techniques, developing hiring proposals, and handling objections.
3. Job Coaching—Face to face training session: This 2-day training session is specifically titled, Job Coaching: Supporting People on the Job. Topics covered in this session include natural supports—what they are and how to use them, the importance of work place culture, balancing natural supports and individual needs, systematic instruction, self-management strategies, social skills supports, and positive behavior supports.
After completing all three components of the training and all required fieldwork, trainees will earn an ACRE Basic Employment Certificate. The names of all participants earning the Certificate will be placed on the ACRE website.

Supporting Meaningful Employment (SME)
National ACRE Certificate Program (Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators)
Supporting Meaningful Employment: A Person-Centered Approach to Career Planning, Job Development and Retention is 42 hour course presented in 13 sessions beginning September each fall. The program is offered by The Sherlock Center on Disabilities, RI College and co-sponsored with the RIDHS-Office of Rehabilitation Services.
To receive ACRE Certification participants will complete fieldwork assignments addressing Person Centered Employment Planning, Job Development strategies and Job Retention planning and have satisfactory attendance.
Past SME graduates report a 40% increase in job placements, a 60% increase in employer contact and improved practices such as: use of community resources, facilitating job seeker self determination and individualized job development strategies.

The Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions
The Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions, a program of Monadnock Developmental Services, Keene NH, in collaboration with CORE Vocational Services, and statewide partners offers a comprehensive, in person 6.5-day training ACRE training called “ Creating Successful Employment Outcomes” Training is offered several times a year, locations vary.
The series is broken into three sets of two-day segments with a half day of benefits training provided by Granite State Independent Living.
Part 1: Getting Started; Knowing the Job Seeker and Creating a Plan: This 2-day section focuses on the evolution of community employment; using assessment tools; career planning; maximizing resources; working with stakeholders; discussing disclosure and accommodations; developing and using networking; placement planning.
Part 2: Making the Fit: Matching Employer Needs with Quality Job Matches: This 2-day section focuses on interactions with employers. Topics include identifying and interacting with your local employers; job carving and job creation; identifying and discussing accommodations; maintaining relationships.
Part 3: Creating Supports and Strategies : This 2-day section focuses on understanding different learning styles and instruction; the role of the job coach; understanding workplace culture and developing supports; fading and skill maintenance; addressing challenging behaviors; developing long term safety nets.
Part 4: Work and Social Security Benefits: A half-day overview: SSI & SSDI; with a strong focus on work incentives; the Medicaid buy-in; discussing benefits with job seekers, families, and other stakeholders; benefits planning resources.
After completing this 40 hour training & all required fieldwork, trainees will earn an ACRE Basic Employment Certificate & those participant names will appear on the ACRE Website (http://interwork.sdsu.edu/acre/index.htm)

The Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions, a program of Monadnock Developmental Services, Keene NH, in collaboration with CORE Vocational Services, and statewide partners offers a comprehensive, in person 6.5-day training ACRE training called “ Creating Successful Employment Outcomes” Training is offered several times a year, locations vary.
The series is broken into three sets of two-day segments with a half day of benefits training provided by Granite State Independent Living.
Part 1: Getting Started; Knowing the Job Seeker and Creating a Plan: This 2-day section focuses on the evolution of community employment; using assessment tools; career planning; maximizing resources; working with stakeholders; discussing disclosure and accommodations; developing and using networking; placement planning.
Part 2: Making the Fit: Matching Employer Needs with Quality Job Matches: This 2-day section focuses on interactions with employers. Topics include identifying and interacting with your local employers; job carving and job creation; identifying and discussing accommodations; maintaining relationships.
Part 3: Creating Supports and Strategies : This 2-day section focuses on understanding different learning styles and instruction; the role of the job coach; understanding workplace culture and developing supports; fading and skill maintenance; addressing challenging behaviors; developing long term safety nets.
Part 4: Work and Social Security Benefits: A half-day overview: SSI & SSDI; with a strong focus on work incentives; the Medicaid buy-in; discussing benefits with job seekers, families, and other stakeholders; benefits planning resources.
After completing this 40 hour training & all required fieldwork, trainees will earn an ACRE Basic Employment Certificate & those participant names will appear on the ACRE Website (http://interwork.sdsu.edu/acre/index.htm)

Trainings are designed in accordance with the competencies and standards set by the Association for People Supporting Employment First (APSE) and the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE).After completing the required 8 workshops, trainees will earn a Basic Employment Certificate from Region 2 TACE and those student’s names will appear on the ACRE Website on the Certificate Registry.
